Comacchio: the little Venice of the Valleys

What is there to visit in Comacchio?

A few kilometres from the tourist village, you can explore Comacchio, a unique lagoon town overlooking the Po Delta Valleys, a distinctive fishing village with its bridges and canals that cross it and make it a little Venice of the Valleys.

The ideal time to visit Comacchio is from April to October.

As you enter the old town centre, from the Ponte degli Sbirri, you can enjoy a truly suggestive view: on one side, the Antico Ospedale degli Infermi; on the other, the 19th-century Palazzo Bellini and the famous Trepponti, the symbol of Comacchio.

Continuing along Via Mazzini from the Porticato dei Cappuccini, which leads to the Sanctuary of Santa Maria in Aula Regia, you enter the ancient Manifattura dei Marinati, where you can visit the “Sala dei fuochi”, with its 12 fireplaces for spit-roasting eels before they are marinated.

A reminder of the local seafaring tradition is the Antica Pescheria, a beautiful 17th-century building located in the Piazzetta just opposite the Trepponti. Other significant historical buildings include the ancient Cathedral of San Cassiano, the Loggia del Grano and the Torre dell’Orologio.

Venice, the lagoon city

A day trip to Venice

You can easily reach Venice from Porto Garibaldi by car or bus.

For coach excursions, please contact the Porto Garibaldi tourist information office. If you are travelling by car, near the Venezia-Tronchetto car park, you will find the vaporetto boarding stations for Rialto and Piazza San Marco.

The top sites to visit in Venice include:

  • St. Mark’s Square
  • Rialto Bridge
  • Ponte dei Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs)
  • Jewish Quarter (Ghetto)
  • Giudecca Island
  • The islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello

Venice is one of the world’s great unique cities and, in addition to the numerous art exhibitions and cultural initiatives, it is to be visited in every season, appreciating all the glimpses and suggestive corners created by the canals, calle (narrow streets) and bridges scattered around the city.

Ravenna, capital of mosaics

What to see in Ravenna

Rich in history and culture, Ravenna is a city of art with 8 UNESCO monuments. A city whose origins bridge East and West. Considered the most important city in Emilia Romagna for its history and culture, Ravenna’s hinterland stretches from the hills of Brisighella to the beaches of Marina di Ravenna.

The city was three times the capital of the Western Roman Empire, capital of the Ostrogothic Kingdom and capital of the Byzantine Exarchate.

This heritage is reflected in the city’s monuments, churches and architectural works, particularly the precious mosaics from the Byzantine era that have established it as the world’s Mosaic capital.

Ravenna’s must-visit monuments include:

  • Basilica of San Vitale
  • Mausoleum of Galla Placidia
  • Baptistery of the Arians
  • Mausoleum of Theodoric
  • Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe
  • Tomb of Dante Alighieri

Ferrara, a Renaissance city

Explore Ferrara

Ferrara is a city that is partly medieval but experienced its greatest splendour in the Renaissance period during the rule of the Este family. It is considered one of the most important and culturally founding seignories of the Italian Renaissance and was one of the European capitals of culture, art, politics and gastronomy, as well as a point of reference for artists, poets and musicians.

In three centuries, the Este dynasty, a great family of patrons, transformed a rural centre into a Renaissance masterpiece that was later declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sites to visit in Ferrara:

  • Estense Castle
  • Palazzo dei Diamanti
  • The Cathedral
  • National Archaeological Museum
  • The City Walls

What people say about us?

Beautiful campsite, clean bathrooms, restaurant with good prices, helpful and friendly staff. The most enjoyable part is the water park with clean and well-maintained pools. During the last week before closing, there were two lifeguards taking shifts, Damiano and Valentina, very nice, helpful, and professional – congratulations! We will definitely come back.

Gaia

Excellent resort right on the beach. Very well-organized, ideal for families and children. The presence of many Dutch and German guests is pleasant; the mini club is well-organized and a great way to encourage interaction among diverse cultures. We will definitely come back!

Debora

Clean and well-maintained Camping. Fantastic pool for the kids. The on-site restaurant offers fish and meat dishes like those from a starred restaurant. Congratulations to all the staff for their attention to detail. We have been several times already and will definitely return!

Elisa
